We are all concerned\nabout the massive attack by anti-Polish forces on our homeland. There has been\nno sign of any counteractive measures taken whatsoever on the part of the Polish\nauthorities. Following the public insult of the Polish people by the Israeli\nForeign Minister, Katz, Poland has not issued a note verbale<\/em> or recalled its ambassador from Israel for\nconsultations. After Mike Pompeo, the U.S. Secretary of State, insulted Poland\nduring the Middle East Conference held here, Poland\u2019s Minister of Foreign\nAffairs didn\u2019t even voice one word of protest about what he had said. We waited\nwith fear for Obama’s words about „Polish death camps” to again be\nrepeated and were soon astonished to learn that the recent anti-Polish\nconference in Paris was called „The New Polish School of Holocaust\nHistory\u201d. The word \u201cPolish\u201d in this title should be emphasized. It is no longer\nan Israeli or American school of thought, but a homegrown Polish one. On this\noccasion, we learned that one of the organizers of this conference was the\nCenter for Holocaust Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences, operating as a\nsection of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of\nSciences. The Center has been in operation since 2003 (see: www.holocaustresearch.pl\/<\/a>) and its\nranks include the main speakers featured at the mentioned Paris event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As one can see,\nit is not important that during the Second World War more ethnic Poles were\nmurdered than Jews from Poland. The Polish Academy of Sciences did not\nestablish a Center for Holocaust Research of Poles, but of Jews. Sadly, it does\nnot seem that the Polish State has any plan in mind, or even any intention, to\ncounteract the anti-Polish campaign. The matter is now so pressing that dealing\nwith it cannot wait any longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The analysis of\nthe mechanism of slander against Poland indicates that the basis for these\nslanders is the falsification of the real nature of the German occupation in\nPoland and the exploitation of human ignorance in this matter. It is not\npossible to repudiate these slanders without making public opinion aware of all\nthe barbarity of Germany in Poland during World War II, of which the people of\nWestern Europe and North America are not aware. Therefore, in order to show the\ntruth about the German occupation, we should focus our efforts on showing the\nfalsity of accusations of the participation of Poland and Poles in the\nextermination of Jews. The key to\nunderstanding the issue is addressing the crime referred to as the \u201cGenocide\nWola 44\u201d. It is a crime of genocide not committed by those who ruled over the concentration\ncamps or recognized criminal organizations such as the SS. It is a crime\ncommitted by regular German Army troops under the command of German Army\nofficers. The largest war crime of the Wehrmacht spanning all of World War II.\nThe crime has never been brought to trial before. But as a crime of genocide,\nit is not time-barred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the people\nassociated with the scientific community and Academic Civic Clubs (Pol.: Akademickie Kluby Obywatelskie<\/em>),\nwe decided to organize a scientific conference devoted to finally ajudge this\ngreatest war crime of the Wehrmacht. The conference will be open to everyone\nand we will try to provide live coverage on the Internet and on some TV\nchannels. It is a large organizational undertaking, but it is the best way, we\nbelieve, to introduce the subject matter to the broader public, so that those\nwho do not know anything about the \u201cGenocide Wola 44\u201d or have forgotten about\nit, will want to get involved at least to some degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is an\nillusion to believe that the matter is obvious to everyone. For 75 years now,\nno one in Poland ever demanded that this crime be ajudged, so it does not exist\nin the public consciousness as a problem. The conference is to present this act\nof genocide to international opinion, bringing to the forefront an act which\nwas committed by the German Army against Polish civilians and prepare a formal\nrequest to the State authorities to reactivate the Supreme National Court (Pol.: Najwy\u017cszy Trybuna\u0142 Narodowy<\/em>) or to\ncreate its legal equivalent for the judgement of the perpetrators and their\nlegal successors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nOrganizational Committee for the conference entitled: \u201cGenocide Wola 44″<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are appalled\nthat the greatest war crime of the German Army, which was the \u201cGenocide Wola\n44\u201d, has not yet been ajudged and its perpetrators remain unpunished. Tens of\nthousands of defenseless men and women, old people and children, were\nruthlessly murdered in cold blood within the span of just a few days. Not in\ndeath camps by criminal camp crews, but by regular German Army units in Warsaw\u2019s\nstreets and courtyards. This crime unprecedented in scale during the entire\nSecond World War must not be forgotten, and its victims\u2019 memory desecrated by\nthe passive stance of the Polish State and the failure to prosecute the\nperpetrators. \u201cGenocide Wola 44\u201d as a crime of genocide is not subject to any\nstatute of limitations. Responsibility for it falls not only on the direct\nmurderers in German uniforms, but first of all, on the commanders responsible\nfor this crime, i.e., on the German state – then the Third Reich – and now on\nits legal successors, i.e., the Federal Republic of Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We demand that\nboth the surviving criminals and their institutional heirs be brought before a\ncourt competent to try German war crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We support the effort\nof organizing a conference entitled \u201cGenocide Wola 44\u201d to present to international\nopinion the enormity of this German crime, unknown in the West, whose scale is\nmany times greater than that of the Katy\u0144 Forest Massacre. In the present situation,\nit is absolutely necessary to stop the rise of anti-Polish slander, as if Poles\nhad participated in the extermination of Jews. These slanderous statements are\nonly possible because international opinion has no idea what the German\noccupation in Poland was like and imagines it in the same way as the German\noccupation of France or Denmark during those war years. This difference is\nsymbolically shown by the comparison between the fate of the Dutch hiding Anne\nFrank in Amsterdam, where none of them faced repression, and the fate of the\nUlma family hiding Jews in Markowa, where the whole family was murdered. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ajudging \u201cGenocide\nWola 44\u201d will demonstrate to international public opinion the enormity of the barbarity\nof the German occupation in Poland and will create a proper basis for\npresenting a comprehensive report on Polish war losses, which is currently\nbeing prepared by a Parliamentary team under the direction of Mr. Arkadiusz\nMularczyk. Above all, however, it will be the fulfillment of the obligation\nimposed on us, the living, by the death of those murdered in Warsaw’s Wola\ndistrict. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
